Physical Development

Section 3: Physical Development

The physical environment of a city is the realm within which its residents conduct the activities of their daily life. It influences the quality of their neighborhoods, their daily activity and travel patterns, accessibility to services, personal safety as well as their aesthetic experience. The physical structure of a place is therefore a very important determinant of the quality of life of its people.

An analysis of the existing physical structure and a vision for the future physical development is a significant part of the Comprehensive Plan for Pittsfield. This section deals with the different components that contribute to the physical structure namely –

  • Land Use
  • Transportation and Thoroughfares
  • Housing
  • Community Facilities
  • Infrastructure
  • Parks and Recreation
