INDR fish surveying

Pittsfield Lake Fisheries Update

IDNR Fisheries recently completed their Spring Trap Net Survey at Pittsfield Lake on April 15–16. Using 10 trap nets, they sampled fish over a 24-hour period and recorded some impressive results!

Highlights include:

  • 26 Muskie, with the largest measuring 39.2” and weighing 21.5 lbs. — the best sample since stockings began in 2019!

  • 10 Walleye, with the biggest weighing in at 11.6 lbs.

  • Plenty of Black and White Crappie — anglers are encouraged to harvest crappie due to high abundance in the lake.

They also came across some turtles (not unusual during these surveys), including a 33 lb Common Snapping Turtle! All fish and turtles were measured, weighed, and released.

Big thanks to IDNR and Blake Ruebush for their ongoing efforts in monitoring and managing our local fisheries!
