TO: News Media, Illinois EPA and Pike County Health Department, and Pittsfield Residents
FROM: City of Pittsfield Water
SUBJECT: Boil Order
AFFECTED AREA: Walnut St. from Lowry to Jill St.-Lowry from Walnut to Clarksville Rd. Curtis St. From Clarksville to Walnut See attached map. Others in the area may experience cloudy or discolored water due to operating the valves and flushing hydrants. This should clear up over next few hours.
At about 3:30 P.M. Dec 16th, 2024, the City of Pittsfield water system in the affected area lost pressure due to a water main repair. This caused the affected area to lose volume and fall below the 20 Psi threshold.
The BOIL ORDER will remain in effect until laboratory sampling confirms that water quality has been fully restored. You will receive a notification at that time.

Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for five minutes, and cool before using.
Or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making
ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice.

The City Water Department will be repairing a water line in the 600 block of S. Walnut this morning starting around 8:30 AM. The Northbound lane will be closed in that area during the repair. Please use caution in this area. In the event a boil order is required we will post an update with the details.
Update, unfortunately due to the nature of this leak we are going to be unable to preform the repair live. Residents in the area may experience low or no water pressure until repairs are completed, hopefully within an hour or 2. There will be a boil order issued as soon as we verify who will be effected.
The city has a water main break around the intersection of Kespol and Rosevelt. They will start repairing that line starting around 8am please avoid that area if possible. We will release additional information as needed concerning possible boil orders
UPDATE: the leak has been fixed and they are repairing the road now, so it should be open to traffic soon. The crew made the repairs without having to shut down service so there will not be a boil order required.
The city crew will be cutting a tree down on Adams St across from the firehouse this afternoon please avoid that area of possible.
The City crew will be taking down dead trees on E. Perry St. between N. Jackson and N. Illinois St. this morning please avoid that area if possible.

The Street and Alley crew will be doing a street repair tomorrow morning December 4t, on Jefferson St just West of Madison. Just South of the Ameren office. Traffic will be reduced to one lane for at least 24 hrs. To allow the concrete to cure.

The gas and water department is currently working on a large locate for the safe routes to school project. They will be locating gas and water lines on Morrison, Lowry, Walnut, Curtis, and a few other areas in that vicinity. Please do not remove these flags or disturb the marks.

The street and alley crew will be doing a road patch on West Perry just East of Mississippi St. The West bound lane will be closed in that area during the work and tomorrow until it cures.
Due to the forecasted sub freezing temperatures we will be turning the water off at the lake campgrounds/restrooms today. The campground will remain open through the weekend there but the water will be shut off.
The street and alley crew is doing a road patch on Clinton St. They will temporarily close Clinton St. this morning From Washington St. approximately 100' South. This will allow the bank to still use the parking on Clinton and not affect their drive thru. Please avoid this area if possible .
Update: the work in this area is complete, and the road is open with a section of the North bound lane still blacked off to allow the concrete to cure for a couple days.
